When it comes to technology and entertainment, kids these days have got it good. They get Beyoncé in their Disney movies, have access to dozens of great apps at their fingertips, can stream their favorite shows from anywhere, and have the option to sign up to receive some of the coolest subscription boxes every single month. Where we had to drag ourselves to a crowded mall to get our hands on the latest fashions, toys, books, and crafts, today’s youth can find thousands of quality items with just a few clicks — and the best part is that companies will curate a package and send it straight to kids’ doorsteps. For a generation that may have never licked an envelope, snail mail treats them well!

There are perks for parents, too. Many subscription boxes plan out themes per month (or shipping cycle of your choosing) so that you don’t have to spend countless hours combing through options. And, yes, there’s a box for every kid: the coder, the chef, the gamer, the reader, the crafter, and the perpetually curious. Simply find the package that works best for you and your kiddo, select your delivery frequency, and get ready for boxes of fun. Your kids will never be so happy to see the mailman.

Ahead, check out the best subscription boxes for kids that’ll make their holiday (or any other time of the year).

Here's the True Cost of Emergency Vet Visits & Why—According to Experts https://www.sheknows.com/living/articles/1077773/emergency-vet-visit-cost/ Thu, 21 Dec 2023 22:26:29 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/pets-and-animals/articles/1077773/emergency-vet-visit-cost/ If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, SheKnows may receive an affiliate commission.

When your pet is injured or sick, the last thing on your mind is how much it will cost to get them better. Whisking your dog or cat off to the emergency vet after they’ve broken a bone, eaten chocolate or experienced pretty much anything unexpected is stressful enough. But the fact of the matter is, taking your animal to the vet for an emergency visit can get really expensive, really fast.

Depending on the state you live in, the veterinary facility, your pet’s breed and the emergency itself, prices for emergency vet visits can vary. But across the board, they’re notoriously steep. An emergency vet can be the same as a standard vet or an entirely different practitioner or animal hospital; either way, the nature of the visit dictates the fees.

We reached out to Alex Stone, CEO of Petted, a leading pet insurance comparison site, and Kristen Lynch, Executive Director of pet insurance association NAPHIA, to learn more about what emergency vet visits actually cost and why they’re so costly. We were shocked to hear the truth. We aren’t talking about hundreds of dollars; we’re talking thousands. The costs add up quickly, but there are some things you can do to soften the financial blow, like investing in the right pet insurance.

Our mission at SheKnows is to empower and inspire women, and we only feature products we think you’ll love as much as we do. Lemonade is a SheKnows sponsor, however, all products in this article were independently selected by our editors. Please note that if you purchase something by clicking on a link within this story, we may receive a small commission of the sale.

How Much Do Emergency Vet Visits Cost?

If your pet has an emergency, “You are basically going to the ER,” says Stone, and just like in the human world, ER visits will cost you. Average prices start at about $40 for a urine test or pain meds and escalate to about $5,000 for emergency surgery, according to Preventive Vet. Some other common treatments include:

  • IV: up to $95
  • Blood tests: up to $200
  • X-rays: up to $250
  • Ultrasound: Up to $600
  • Wound treatment: up to $2,500
  • Oxygen therapy: Up to $3,000
  • Hospitalization: up to $3,500
  • Intestinal obstruction with surgery: $4,000 or more
  • Pancreatitis: $5,000 or more
  • Eating poison like chocolate or raisins: $5,000 or more
  • Antifreeze poisoning: $6,000 or more
  • Hit by a car: $8,000 or more
  • Dog bite wounds: $10,000 or more

If you figure that many of these treatments may be required in a single visit, you start to realize how some people can end up in debt if their pet experiences a medical emergency.

Why Are Emergency Vet Visits So Costly? Experts Break It Down

“Emergency visits are costly because it typically means that the situation is no longer about small or routine treatments that can be more easily addressed. Instead, they often require complex and multi-pronged diagnostics and treatment approaches which may include blood tests, X-rays, exams, prescriptions, overnight hospital stays, IV fluids or medication, surgery and specialist treatments,” says Lynch.

“A specialty animal hospital is no different than the ER,” adds Stone. “So in terms of the diagnostics, whether it’s X-rays, MRI scans, whether it’s blood tests, surgery…you’ve got teams of people around the clock that are watching over your pet.” Stone emphasizes that emergency veterinary training is just as rigorous as training for human emergencies. And since pets can’t vocalize how they feel or how many pain they’re in, monitoring them requires even more vigilance. Supplies and machinery in veterinary emergency rooms can be more expensive than those in regular vet facilities, too.

Emergency vet costs can vary, according to Betterpet, based on:

Location

Different states charge different fees for veterinary care. The actual facility you choose will factor in too. “You can have the same surgery done in the midwest for $3,000 to $4,000, let’s say for example, TPLO (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy) surgery…can typically cost you three or $4,000 in the Midwest. But in California [or New York] that can be $9,000, simply because the cost of buildings, staff, and education — the cost of everything is just more expensive in those states,” says Stone.

Breed

Your dog’s breed will determine what kinds of illnesses they’re susceptible to, like hip dysplasia and eye infections, which can also affect prices.

The severity of the emergency

Things like emergency surgery and cardiac conditions often cost thousands.

Specialities

If your pet develops cancer, for instance, they’ll need to see an oncologist. Cancer treatments can be among the most costly.

Why Having Pet Insurance Helps With Emergency Vet Visits

“We live in a country where almost six out of 10 people have less than $500 in savings,” notes Stone, according to some statistics. Other studies have that average hovering around $1,200. Either way, it’s not getting you very far in the event of an emergency: it would only cover a two-day hospital stay on the low end of the cost spectrum. “People just don’t have the money to keep their pets healthy. That’s why pet insurance is growing massively. In the last few years, people are finally realizing, ‘Hey, pet insurance is a really good thing because it protects my pet against the worst,'” says Stone.

“Pet insurance helps the pet owner say ‘yes’ to comprehensive care and treatments. When this happens, you want to be able to be there for your pet, deal with the complex emotions of being a caring pet parent, and ideally not worry about whether you can afford to provide the care they need and the situation demands,” adds Lynch. But pet insurance is all about the type and level of coverage you have. “Policies offer a wide range of coverage options to suit the needs of the pet owner, their financial situation, and the breed and age of their pet.”

Choosing pet insurance to protect your pet in the event of a medical emergency comes down how much annual coverage you want, how much you want to spend in monthly premiums, how much you’d rather pay toward a deductible versus a copay, the age and general health of your pet and, of course, what accidents and illnesses are covered by the policy. Some pet insurers offer accident and illness plans only, while others give the option of adding preventive care, too.

Lemonade Pet Insurance

Lemonade is an example of a pet insurance that has you covered in the event of a range of emergencies. In fact, accidents and illnesses are covered in their base plan. You can select an annual coverage limit between $5,000 and $100,000. You’ll pay a higher premium for higher payouts, but this can benefit you in the event of an emergency. Choosing a higher copay and lower deductible could also benefit you in this regard. A Lemonade policy will cover diagnostics and treatments with reimbursement rates of 70%, 80% or 90% depending on the plan. You can add emergency room visits to the plan for an additional $5 a month. For another $13 a month, you can include dental emergencies (and checkups). An add-on of $3.50 a month will give you prescription medication coverage.

Kate Hudson's Daughter Rani Looks So Excited to Meet Santa At a Family Holiday Party https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/articles/2922080/kate-hudson-daughter-rani-meet-santa/ https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/articles/2922080/kate-hudson-daughter-rani-meet-santa/#respond Thu, 21 Dec 2023 20:56:05 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?p=2922080 Santa Claus is coming in 3 days (!!), and Kate Hudson’s 5-year-old daughter Rani Rose got to meet him before he heads off in his sleigh on Christmas Eve. In a new photo from a family holiday party, Rani looks adorable as she waits to meet Santa.

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell’s son Wyatt Russell (who is Hudson’s half brother) and his wife Meredith Hagner hosted a family holiday party at their Los Angeles home. Hagner shared several photos from the event, one of which captioned Hudson’s daughter Rani and her dad Danny Fujikawa about to meet Santa. Rani is full of holiday cheer in a red ruffled dress with ballerinas, ornaments, and rocking horses, paired with red glittery tights and a green velvet bow in her hair. Her dad stands behind her as she smiles up at an elf sitting next to Santa. She is so excited to meet St. Nick!

“❤️snippets from the merriest night ❤️,” Hagner captioned the post, which also included photos of her baby bump, and a gorgeous, elaborate holiday dinner. Hagner is currently pregnant with baby number 2 with Wyatt, and they are also parents to son Buddy, 2.

Earlier this month, Hudson celebrated a different holiday with Rani and her son Bingham, 12, who she shares with ex Matt Bellamy. (She’s also mom to Ryder, 19, with ex Chris Robinson.) Her youngest kids helped her celebrate the first day of Hanukkah by lighting the menorah.

“Connecting to love, light, miracles and peace tonight on the first day of Hanukkah ✨” she captioned the post. “Happy Hanukkah everyone 🫶.”

This week, Hudson shared a sweet selfie of her fiancé Fujikawa and their daughter. “🎄❤️,” she simply captioned the heartwarming picture, where Rani is dressed in a red sweater with a white bow in her hair and Fujikawa is wearing a green sweater with a winter cap.

In another post, she shared photos of her home all decorated for the holidays and wrote about her favorite traditions. “Around our home lately 🎄 I love the holidays so much and throughout the years have collected trees, Santa’s, music boxes, snow villages, ornaments, and more,” the Almost Famous star wrote. “We bake, cook, sing, share laughs and create light to shine everywhere, we wish for love and peace.” It sounds amazing, right?

Hudson continued, “I am a lover of this time over year and soak every minute of it up. I guess that is a good metaphor for how I feel about life and celebrating our time here. It’s as fleeting as the holidays. Here today, gone tomorrow. So I choose to make it sweet and cozy. Everyday. And of course every Holiday. Wishing sweet and cozy to everyone ❤️💫🫶💫❤️ PS. Jennifer Garner's Cinnamon Twist On This Ina Garten Recipe Makes It the Coziest Holiday Morning Treat https://www.sheknows.com/food-and-recipes/articles/2922145/jennifer-garner-ina-garten-cinnamon-bread/ https://www.sheknows.com/food-and-recipes/articles/2922145/jennifer-garner-ina-garten-cinnamon-bread/#respond Thu, 21 Dec 2023 20:24:28 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?p=2922145 If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, SheKnows may receive an affiliate commission.

Winter is baking time, and there’s nothing more comforting than the smell of freshly baked loaves of bread filling the house when it’s cold and blustery outside. And we’re not the only ones who think so. Many of our favorite celebrity chefs have waxed poetic about the art of baking bread, and some, like Ina Garten, have recipes we’ve made over and over again. Garten’s honey white bread loaf, from her cookbook Barefoot Contessa at Home, has long been one of our favorite things to bake, whether we’re craving sandwich bread, toast, or something to accompany a big pot of soup. It turns out that we’re not alone. Ina Garten fan Jennifer Garner recently posted on her Instagram story that she’d just baked up two of these soft, tender loaves of white bread, but it’s the cinnamon twist she put on the recipe that has us drooling.

Garner has professed her love for cinnamon bread before. She even shared her recipe for making “perfect” cinnamon toast on her “Pretend Cooking Show” video series, which she said “makes for an indulgent Sunday morning or after-school snack.” So filling Ina Garten’s honey white bread dough with a cinnamon swirl seems like the only logical next step for Garner.

If it sounds as delicious to you as it does to us, we recommend preparing a batch of Ina Garten’s honey white bread dough, then pairing it with the cinnamon swirl technique used in The Pioneer Woman’s recipe for Homemade Cinnamon Bread. After the dough undergoes its first rise, halve it and roll each half into a rectangle. Then, brush the dough with melted butter, cinnamon, and sugar. We also like to add a dash of cardamom here, but it’s totally up to you. The dough gets rolled up, the seam pressed together, and then it’s added to the loaf pan for another rise before baking.

The end result will be a soft, tender loaf of gently sweet honey white bread, with a buttery cinnamon sugar swirl inside. Use it to make a double cinnamon version of Garner’s favorite cinnamon toast, or spread with butter and eat alongside a cup of hot tea, cocoa, or coffee to keep you warm while the winter wind howls outside.

Kim Kardashian’s Elves Make a Huge Hot Cocoa Bath for Her Kids & We've Never Seen Her House Messier https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/articles/2921981/kim-kardashian-elves-hot-cocoa-bath/ https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/articles/2921981/kim-kardashian-elves-hot-cocoa-bath/#respond Thu, 21 Dec 2023 19:49:55 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?p=2921981 When an Elf on the Shelf comes to visit, they leave behind a trail of Christmas chaos — and celebrities’ elves are apparently no different! Kim Kardashian shared a new video of the impressive hot cocoa bath her scout elves made in her bathroom, and it’s the messiest we’ve ever seen her usually-immaculate home.

“Hot cocoa,” Kardashian captioned a video on the TikTok account she shares with her eldest daughter North West, 10. In the clip, Kardashian’s massive bathtub is filled with hot cocoa and marshmallows, with several elves swimming inside. On the side of the tub, more elves have been playing with peppermint, chocolate, and candy, including spelling out “ELF,” drawing a smiley face in sprinkles, and designing a candy heart. It’s so cute — and a little anxiety-inducing if you prefer your home clean and orderly!

They elves even left a note to Kardashian’s four kids, North, Saint, 8, Chicago, 5, and Psalm, 4, who she shares with ex-husband Kanye West. It read: “North, Saint, Chi, Psalm, we couldn’t find cups so we found the biggest place to make our hot chocolate! It’s in Mommy’s bathtub. Please help us cleanup! Love, Frostee the Snow Elf!” So cute! (Maybe the kids will help clean up the mess if she’s lucky!)

The SKIMS founder often posts about her mischievous elves. Last year, she revealed that North helps her with the elaborate set ups. “North got creative w the elves this year,” Kardashian wrote. “They will wake up so happy!” The elves were into a variety of activities, including one dangling over the stove in a firefighter costume, one playing with makeup, one hiding in a mug of candy canes, and one sitting next to candy.

North seems to have a little too much fun with the elves. Back in 2018, she brought in an elf grave. “Saint touched his Elf on a Shelf so North just brought this in,” Kardashian captioned a drawing of a photo that showed an elf lying on top of a drawing of a grave. Yikes, North!

It seems like going all out is Kardashian’s holiday theme, because her decorations are over-the-top and amazing too. In North’s room alone, there are seven perfectly decorated trees with presents underneath, stockings, and a whole snack bar set up on her desk.

One thing’s for sure: it would be impossible to avoid the holiday spirit in this home!

This Bestselling, ‘Life-Changing’ Pregnancy Pillow From Australia Is Beloved by Midwives & It's On Sale Now https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/articles/2846805/shop-australian-pregnancy-pillow/ https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/articles/2846805/shop-australian-pregnancy-pillow/#respond Thu, 21 Dec 2023 19:44:05 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?p=2846805 If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, SheKnows may receive an affiliate commission.

After a long day of battling pregnancy symptoms — be it nausea, backaches, sore breasts, running to the bathroom every five minutes, or overall discomfort — all an expectant mom wants (and needs!) is a good night’s sleep. But, the cruel reality of pregnancy, is that it can be impossible to get settled in bed when there’s a baby bump in the way. By the second trimester, it’s not only uncomfortable to sleep on your back or belly, but it could potentially restrict blood flow to the fetus.

And so, pregnant mamas have to turn to their sides and often need a supportive pregnancy pillow in order to get some serious Zs. Some pillows come as a full-body wrap-around pillow, or as pieces that are meant to target specific parts of the body.

The Sleepybelly pregnancy pillow has the best of both worlds. The 3-piece adjustable pillow surrounds mamas with one side supporting the back and the other, the tummy. There are two pieces that are basically the shape of a baby bump. Moms can place one below their belly and one behind them, or they can swap in the torso-length pillow to give their back extra support and stop mamas from rolling over. The pieces have an adjustable velcro attachment for widening the pillow, making this a one-and-done purchase that will last throughout the pregnancy. So yeah, it’s no wonder it keeps selling out.

It’s even a win postpartum when it can be used as a nursing pillow! And we’re not the only ones who think so.
The Australian co-founders (Fear not! The Sleepybelly has free shipping to the United States!) wanted to create a product that had comfort and safety at the forefront, and midwives, physiotherapists, and more than 15K happy customers would certainly say they succeeded.

Our favorite detail of all? The pillow comes with a 30-night trial, so skeptical shoppers can rest easy (literally).

The Sleepybelly pregnancy pillow has hundreds of glowing reviews.

“Most comfortable pillow! The best part is being able to separate the pillows and use one at a time. My favorite is the long one! So convenient when I keep turning sides. 100% recommend!!”

“LOVE MY PILLOW. I read heaps of reviews before purchasing this product and this pillow is worth every cent!!!!…My only regret is not purchasing this in the first trimester, I didn’t think I needed a pregnancy pillow but your body changes so, so quick and the pillow really helps! ALSO. This pillow looks nice and isn’t bulky!”

“I can honestly say it’s the best money ever spent…The memory foam is honestly the best, it never flattens and just bounces right back after you’ve used it for the night.”

“Game changer! As a women’s health physio, I was getting frustrated as I found that a lot of pregnancy pillows on the market were not quite right for my patients. Being pregnant myself now I decided to do some research and came across Sleepybelly and WOW!…The main benefit for me has been the huge relief in hip pain that I was experiencing going from a back sleeper to a side sleeper. Highly recommend and will be suggesting this pillow to all of my pregnant patients!”

“Initially dubious but totally get it now…wondered what was with all the hype, but now happy to be part of the rave reviewers.”

This pillow is life-changing.”

Jennifer Love Hewitt Revealed How Hollywood Took Advantage of Her Image at a Young Age https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/2922029/jennifer-love-hewitt-sexualized-hollywood-teen-star/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/2922029/jennifer-love-hewitt-sexualized-hollywood-teen-star/#respond Thu, 21 Dec 2023 19:33:00 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?p=2922029 It feels like Jennifer Love Hewitt has been famous for most of her life, but she’s revealing that there are consequences to everyone knowing her name at a young age. Hollywood became tough to navigate as a teen star because there were expectations placed on her image at a very tender time in her development.

On the Dec. 5 episode of the Inside of You podcast, Hewitt explained how she was sexualized as a young performer. It was a time when she was “insecure” and “didn’t feel self-confident” about herself. “I felt watched. I felt like I had to be everything for everybody all the time. I was called sexy before I ever knew what being sexy was,” she shared. “I was 17 years old on the cover of Maxim, and I had no idea why. I was honored. I loved it. But why?”

And it wasn’t just the Maxim cover, Hewitt also felt sexualized on the set of Heartbreakers, which she filmed in 2001 at the age of 23. “I remember doing ‘Heartbreakers’ at 23 and the director [David Mirkin] was like, ‘We just need you to be sexier.’ I had to pull him aside and be like, ‘I don’t know what that means. I’m only 23,’” Hewitt recalled. “I know that I’m supposed to be this thing for people, but I don’t know what that means. He had to help me figure that out.”

It was an awkward time for her because Hewitt was making that big transition from her teen years into young womanhood. What makes the sexualization even more uncomfortable in 2023 is that fans sometimes voice their wishes that Hewitt still looked like the younger version of herself.

“It’s weird for me when people are like, ‘That’s the girl that we wanted you to be,’” Hewitt continued. “That girl was so insecure and so confused and trying her best. But this girl [now] — who may not look [that] way — I like who I am. I feel good. I’m fine.” The good news is that the 9-1-1 star now has the confidence to call herself sexy.

“I mean, not every day, but you know, I have my moments,” Hewitt summed up. “There’s definitely times where I look in the mirror and I’m like, ‘Oh, dear god, what has happened?’ And there’s other times where I’m like, ‘She’s got it. She’s fine.’”

How to Handle Your First Holiday Alone as a Parent https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/articles/1975383/how-to-handle-your-first-holiday-alone-as-parent/ https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/articles/1975383/how-to-handle-your-first-holiday-alone-as-parent/#respond Thu, 21 Dec 2023 19:29:21 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?p=1975383 If you are new to celebrating the holiday season alone as a parent, whether due to a recent separation or divorce or a newly empty nest, there are no two ways about it: This is likely an extremely challenging and emotional time. The holidays are for cheer and memory-building while surrounded by loved ones, right? And for you, those loved ones have included your kids — until now. It can feel like a real wake-up call the first time you’re faced with navigating a particular holiday on your own.

But it doesn’t have to be as scary as it seems. There are several healthy ways to cope during this time, to still remain a huge part of your children’s lives and holiday — all while taking advantage of some much-needed solo time for everything from reflection to self-care to socializing with friends. Before you know it, your first kid-free holiday might turn out to be… fun (*gasp!*).

Embrace Technology

It’s 2023, mamas. If kids are spending a holiday at your ex’s, at college, or away with friends, that’s absolutely no reason you can’t “spend” some of that holiday with them too — virtually. “Calling or texting your child helps you stay connected. Take pictures or videos of what you are doing and share it with your children if possible. Tell them you love them and miss them. Wish them a fun and happy time wherever they are spending their holiday,” counselor Casey Lee tells SheKnows.

But don’t let your kids think you’re pained by their absence. Put on a smile when communicating with them, and make it a positive moment. “Make sure that they are protected from feeling guilty and responsible for the pain that is caused by not being able to be with them during the holidays,” she says.

Don’t Just Sit at Home Alone

For crying out loud. Why would you do that? “Surround yourself with other family and friends who care about you. Reach out to them so you are not alone,” says Lee. “Being with other people you love, who will listen and support you, can bring some comfort,” she says.  It also helps take your mind off the sadness of not being with your children. You’ll be too distracted by all the good vibes around you.

Be Flexible to Limit Stress

Trying to demand more time (whether face time or FaceTime) with your kids when it’s the other parent’s holiday turn, or when your adult kids have simply chosen another place to celebrate that day, only adds stress. “Be happy with the time you’re given. If you can’t spend Christmas Day with your children but can see them the 26th, 27th or perhaps New Year’s Day, it’s important to find a way to be content with that,” marital and family lawyer Charles D. Jamieson, Esq., tells SheKnows.

“Society bombards us with unrealistic images of the perfect ‘Hallmark Christmas,’ but the truth of the matter is, even your traditional happy family units don’t live up to those expectations,” he says. The holidays are never going to be perfect, so you have to take full advantage of the time you do have with your children.

You may even have the opportunity to start new family traditions on the days you have with them. “As long as you make your time with them special, they won’t care if it’s their ‘second Christmas’ so to speak. They’ll love every moment they get to spend with you,” he says.

Send a Gift

“If you are not granted the opportunity to see your kids at all during the holidays, you should absolutely still send them a gift. Include a card that lets them know you love them and are thinking of them even if you can’t be together,” says Jamieson. Plus, hunting down gifts for each child can be really fun — and it’s a way of feeling the love and positive emotions you have for them during the time you are apart. That connection will stay strong, regardless of proximity.

Do Something for Yourself

The holidays are a hectic, stressful time for anyone, and especially newly-single moms and newbie empty nesters — and the expectations we place on ourselves during this season can be very overwhelming. “Remember to take care of yourself during this time and be kind to yourself. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep, exercising, and take time to visit friends or other family members,” says Jamieson.

You can also try volunteering, which will take your mind off your own specific family and place it on helping others instead. “There are also so many activities [that] give back [and] organizations to get involved with during the holidays. Whether it’s helping with a toy drive, serving in a meal line or volunteering at a local animal shelter, doing good for others will take your mind off your situation and make you feel good during this troubled time,” Jamieson adds.

Be Patient

“It’s OK to not be OK — to miss your kids, to feel sad during the holidays or for the period you are apart. Be patient and gentle with yourself,” Emily Cosgrove, a licensed marriage and family therapist and a life coach, tells SheKnows.

“Be kind to yourself with your thoughts. Give yourself time and space to process these emotions. Things will get better with time,” she says. Focus on practicing self-care while alone. “Self-care [can] include no-social-media time, getting enough sleep, eating healthy meals before indulging in holiday treats, exercising and getting fresh air and taking vitamins — especially if you are susceptible to illness or seasonal affective disorder,” she says. “Self-care can also include setting boundaries and saying no to things that are too stressful or overwhelming,” she adds. Figure out what works for you and what helps you cope during this transitional period.

If you’re alone as a parent for the holidays, look for ways to be present and connected to your kids, both when you’re with them and apart. And think of how you can be there for yourself, too — integrate self-care habits, think of new traditions you can start that will be special for yourself or for your family moving forward. And above all, cut yourself some slack.

Brittany Mahomes Is Speaking Out After Internet Trolls Took a Turn for the Worse on Her Social Media https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/2921873/brittany-mahomes-internet-trolls-speaking-out/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/2921873/brittany-mahomes-internet-trolls-speaking-out/#respond Thu, 21 Dec 2023 19:27:00 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?p=2921873 While fame and celebrity are something many of us only dream of, celebrities often remind us that their lives are not all they’re cut out to be. For Brittany Mahomes, who’s happily married to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, having their lives in the limelight has had its pros and cons. Most recently, however, especially given her newfound friendship with Taylor Swift, it seems like online trolls have taken a turn for the worse.

Among the rude comments on Mahomes’ recent Instagram pic, for example, are people criticizing every part of the post, from where she is to her appearance. In the post, Mahomes shared a few pictures of her on the sidelines before a match. As for her look, she’s seen rocking a black leather mini-skirt, a black sweater, high matching boots, a cream-colored jacket and a bright red bag.

“Why do wives/gfs feel the need to be on the field before game?? They should ban it. No reason for it,” commented one user. “How old is she? Is she 45?” commented another.

Seeing all these negative comments pile up, the mom of two decided to speak out. “Recently there has been ALOT more rude a– people on here, waaaay more then[sic] normal,” Mahomes wrote on her Instagram Story, per People.

“I’m not sure where y’all came from, but you should probably go back to where you came from…please,” she wrote, pleading for everyone to mind their own business.

Knowing that Mahomes uses her social media to share her life as a wife and a mom to her kids, Bronze, 1, and Sterling, 2, we can’t imagine how stressful it is to see her social media become a place for such negativity.

In fact, before posting her game-day outfit, Mahomes posted hilarious pictures of her kids posing with Santa Claus ahead of the holidays. In the pictures, the family of four is sitting right next to a jolly Saint Nicholas. Unfortunately, however, while the adults all have the same big grins on their faces, Sterling and Bronze both have sad and confused expressions on their faces. Talk about a classic parenting moment!

Here’s hoping Mahomes’ trolls soon find someone else to criticize and her page goes back to celebrating her and her family’s accomplishments, milestones and occasional hilarious Christmas portrait!
