There’s Speculation Around Meghan Markle’s Return to the Royal Family & It Doesn’t Make Sense

The British tabloids have made a big fuss over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s outreach toward King Charles III in hopes of a reconciliation. The U.K. media’s angle behind the couple’s olive branch seems to be aimed at their need for forgiveness in order to make their way back to the royal family.

Royal expert Tom Quinn told the Express that Prince Harry has discovered that he “needs the royals more than they need him” and that’s why the dynamic duo is trying to “patch up the relationship” with the monarch. But after a year of headlines from Harry’s memoir, Spare, and Omid Scobie’s royal biography, Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, everyone seems to want a moment to breathe, including the Sussexes. So, a move to mend the royal rift seems like a good idea for both sides, but nowhere has Harry nor Meghan indicated that they are ready to move back to London and slide back into their senior roles.

Quinn believes that Harry and Meghan would need to “accept that Prince William and Kate Middleton would still outrank” them to make an official comeback. But none of that makes sense if you take a closer look at the clues the stateside couple has been dropping over the last year. Harry and Meghan aren’t worried about Kate and William’s path to the throne, they seem firmly ensconced in their Montecito community. Over the last few years, they have become close friends with neighbors Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, and have even supported a local charity event hosted by Kevin Costner.

In LA, Meghan has signed with a high-profile Hollywood agency to rebrand her image and set her on a solid career trajectory. None of that would be happening if they were moving back to the U.K. They didn’t thrive under the strict royal protocols because it didn’t align with their mission. And if their Christmas card was any indication of what is ahead, they are hoping to make big moves in 2024 with their Archewell Foundation. While a reconciliation does seem to be in the cards between Harry, Meghan and King Charles, their goals seem to be on the personal, not the professional, side.
