Jewel is embarking on a new romance with Kevin Costner but, according to her dating history, it’s not her first time being linked to a big name in Hollywood.
The singer-songwriter lives a relatively low-key life but her budding relationship with Costner has thrust her personal life into the spotlight. Photos of Jewel, 49, and the Yellowstone actor, 68, cozying up to one another during a fundraiser vacation on Richard Branson’s Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands in early December first confirmed that the couple were dating but insiders report that their relationship started before the trip.
Of course, Costner’s love life has been highly publicized amid his divorce from ex-wife Christine Baumgartner, which was finalized in September after months of back and forth over child support, property and assets following their breakup in May. The Dances With Wolves actor’s second divorce left many fans speculating about who he would date next until his romance with Jewel shut down rumors about all of the other suspected love interests.
Jewel’s dating history, however, is a little less talked about than her new beau but that’s not to say that she hasn’t had her fair share of celebrity romances. The You Were Meant For Me singer is a mom-of-one and has been married once, to rodeo cowboy Ty Murray with whom she shares a son. Jewel has also had a few high-profile romances scattered throughout her lengthy career.

1996: Sean Penn

The singer spilled the details about their romance in her memoir Never Broken. They met during an appearance on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and grew closer when Jewel worked on her song “Emily” for Penn’s movie The Crossing Guard.
“We spoke on the phone a lot and he was a fantastic flirt and I did not mind one bit,” Jewel wrote in her memoir. “But I was no fool and knew I was most likely a trifle to him. I intended to give him no such conquest. I put that man through his paces and he took it in stride. He began to court me in earnest, following me around on tour, acting as my de facto roadie.”
Within a year, their relationship fizzled out.

In 2011, they welcomed a son named Kase but their marriage wasn’t built to last. In 2014, Jewel announced their breakup in a blog post.
“For some time we have been engaged in private and difficult, but thoughtful and tender undoing of ourselves,” she wrote. “Ty and I have always tried to live the most authentic life possible, and we wanted our separation as husband and wife to be nothing less loving than the way we came together.”
“Due to the spirit in which we have gone about this separation, we trust we can remain dear friends who hold each other in high esteem, which is so important to us as parents – we wish only what is best for our son.”
The exes reportedly remain friends.

“Kevin and Jewel had an extremely high opinion of each other and have always gotten along great. They check a lot of boxes for each other,” an insider said, adding that they bonded their mutual love for music. “He’s really into his [band, Modern West], and singing, and she’s very much a part of that country-and-western world.”
